Virginia Cavaliers football was established in 1888 when they played in local YMCA teams and fellow state teams without pads. Currently, the Cavaliers developed into a multimillion dollar operation. They also presently compete in the NCAA Division I-FBS and the Coastal Division of the Atlantic Coast Conference. Their home game is at Scott Stadium located at Charlottesville, Virginia with a capacity of 61,500 fans. Cavalier’s head coach is Al-Groh, who was also the former head coach of the New York Jets of the NFL. Important Moments and Accomplishments
Virginia Cavaliers football had won once in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association Championship in the year 1908. They also had won twice in the ACC Championships; those were in the years 1989 with co-champions with Duke and 1995 with co-champions with Florida State. Furthermore, in the term of Groh, he led the Cavaliers to four consecutive winning seasons from 2002 to 2005, including a 3-1 record in bowl games. Without Mikell Simpson, Virginia might have lost if he didn’t substitute the injured Cedric Peerman in 2007. And currently, the Cavalier does not offer any insurance policy.

During last Saturday's 24-17 overtime loss to Miami, Simpson broke his collarbone and is unfortunately out for the year. Luckly for U.Va. as the Cavaliers (5-4, 3-2 ACC) enter the regular season's final month., Peerman is near to 100 percent. However, as a fifth- senior year in 2009,Simpson should be available for the Cavaliers. In the year 2007, Simpson’s can average to 5.0 yards per carry but unfortunately, this season he fell to 3.0. And with this, Al Groh said that it has been a source of their dismay since he lost his yardage on 15 of his 87 carries and he did not gain another 10.

Since Cavaliers lost three starters from the offensive line which includes first-round NFL draft pick Branden Albert, it is understandable that they have fewer holes this season. Al Groh still does not come up with a concrete plan fort this diffuculty, but he is sure that whatever it is, they would need a good result.

In a renewal of the rivalry that dates back in the year 1924, Wolfpack and Blue Devils meets at Wallace Wade Stadium in Durham, N.C on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. The Wolfpack players would only want to end the four-game losing streak that flickers their interest. However, their coach Tom O’Brien is not familiar with the rivalry and had faced the Blue Devils only once in a dozen years.

With a record of 10 straight victorious games over the Blue Devils, the Wolfpack were off last week and in the 34 days prior to the contest, they will play just two games. They indeed need the time to slowly receive the preseason’s injured players. Their time off were also spent in trying to mingle with other players and making an effort to spend more time together. Moreover, the time was allotted in order for them to improve their defense after the Maryland game which ranked them last in the defense league.

The lineup was also changed during the off week with defensive end Willie Young and linebacker Audie Cole returning to the starting lineup and cornerbacks DeAndre Morgan and Koyal George still fighting for one of the starting cornerback starting jobs.

Nonetheless, their coach had seen a significant improvement in the team’s last three games. In the final period, they had a combined final margin of 19 points. Furthermore the coach emphasized that since there are some guys whose careers are about to end it is imperative that they would have a good game now.

North Carolina Tar Heels College football


The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is embodied in the football collegiate level by the North Carolina Tar Heels football team. Since its existence for about 120 years, they had won 630 games and they appeared in about 25 bowl games. The 2001 Peach Bowl was the team’s most up to date triumph in where they defeated the Auburn Tigers 16–10. After taking part in the Atlantic Coast Conference in 1953, the team had won five conference championships in which in 1980 were the most current.

The program hired a new head coach in the person of Butch Davis last November 13, 2006. He was the past head coach of the Miami Hurricanes and Cleveland Browns. Miami Hurricanes College Football recent news

Last Oct. 27, 2008 Muscle Milk Student-Athletes of the Week for the ending period of Sunday, November 2 were selected. They were, Laron Byrd and Aldarius Johnson. And last saturday, November 1, Byrd attempted to score at 17-17 with just 55 seconds remaining in regulation at Virginia in a 26-yard touchdown reception from Jacory Harris, a freshman quarterback. And during the overtime, with a 9-yard touchdown Harris hit Johnson, who was his high school teammate at Miami Northwestern, and puts the Hurricanes with the final score up by 24-17. Due to the victory, it became the Hurricanes fourth straight win with a record of 6-3 overall and 3-2 in the ACC. And on the coming November 13, the Hurricanes will return to battle in opposition to Virginia Tech. With the game, it will give recognition to UM's latest class to enter the Ring of Honor. The Maryland Terrapins represents the University of Maryland in the intercollegiate football team in NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision, which was formerly known as Division I-A. The Maryland Terrapins is more popularly known as 'the Terps' and they most frequently contend within the Atlantic Division of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC).

Originally, school's athletic teams were known as 'The Old Liners’. Since Maryland’s nickname was 'Old Line State'. But then Curly Byrd suggested in 1932, that the name be changed to diamondback terrapin which is after a type of land-dwelling turtle, since Byrd spent his childhood in Chesapeake Bay, where the species is common. Then, to shorten the headlines in the newspaper, they started referring them as “the Terps”. The abridged name remained and currently the official team name of the school. The school’s mascot is named Testudo, which is a diamondback terrapin. Testudo means 'turtle' in Latin. The word has been used as a scientific nomenclature in species related to the reptile like, the order Testudine and family Testudinidae. Furthermore, the name most probably came from the ancient Roman military scheme, in where soldiers completely enclose their infantry square with their shields in order to guard them from projectiles. Maryland is third to the most ACC championships with nine following Florida State with 12 and Clemson with 13. It is also interesting to note that this stadium is also the largest among all the football stadiums used by the ACC member schools.

Over the years, the Florida State Seminoles has garnered an impressive number of championships, making it one of the most formidable collegiate football teams in the ACC.
